THE DESIGN
1970 GMT Automatic
Taking inspiration from the raw and rural nature of Iceland, the 1970 GMT Automatic is a celebration of the cold north. A place of volcanoes, mountains and glaciers, the Arctic country is all about adventure and exploration beyond borders. Being a place of outdoor adventures, we made a watch able to withstand the sometimes inhumane conditions the raw nature of Iceland offers. Besides the glacier-white dial, silver bezel and icey-blue GMT hand, the watch is made with shock-resistant Incabloc technology, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and cut from surgical grade stainless steel, this adventure-ready GMT watch will be able to cope with it all.
THE CASE
The case is a purpose-built, and adventure ready 40mm stainless steel case, made in 316L surgical grade steel with protective crown guards and a lug-width of 20mm. The case-sides have been beautifully polished as a subtle contrast to the horizontally brushed top, and the overall sturdy case design. On the back of the watch, a screw-in caseback with deep-edge engravings makes room for personalization with a unique engraving, also locking up the movement inside in a waterproof container, tested to 100m. The bezel is a 24hour GMT 72 click rotating bezel with aluminum inlay in silver and grey, for easy reading of up to three time zones.
THE GMT FUNCTION
Make sure the bezel is in its standard position by aligning its 24H with 12H on the dial. Set the watch to your current local time by pulling the crown to 2nd position. Hereafter, pull the crown to 1st position and turn clockwise to adjust the GMT hand to home time (the place from where you will depart) until it matches with the 24-hour bezel. If your current time is 11.00am, you simply turn the GMT hand until it reaches 11 on the bezel.
Now, if you land in a timezone one hour ahead and wish to adjust your watch to your current timezone, pull out the crown to 2nd position and set the time one hour ahead using the hour and minute hand. Now, you know your current time (showcased by hour and minute hand) as well as the time in the place from which you departed (showcased by the GMT hand).
If you wish to set a third timezone, you rotate the bezel. Find out how many hours your third timezone is either ahead or behind your home time (showcased by the GMT hand). If your desired timezone is six hours ahead, you rotate the bezel six clicks (six hours). Now, using the pre-set GMT hand, you will see the third timezone on the bezel. Voliá!

THE MOVEMENT
Inside the 1970 GMT ticks a Swiss Made Sellita caliber SW330-1. It is the Swiss manufacturers workhorse GMT movement with a date complication that makes it ideal for everyday use as well as your trusty travel companion. The movement is equipped with 25 jewel bearings, all being hold in place by the patented Incabloc shock-resistant technology. Besides the date with quick setting function, the movement is made with a 24 hour GMT hand, that makes keeping track of a second timezone easy, as it can be set individually. If you wish to see a third timezone, simply turn the 24h GMT bezel the amount of hours back or forth until the new time zone is aligned with the GMT hand. When going back to dual time zone, simply turn the bezel back, with 24 lined up above the About Vintage logo.
